The Prince's Mayday Network

The Prince's Mayday Network

What is the Prince's Mayday Network?

The Prince's Mayday Network is organised through Business in the Community. Named after the international 'Mayday Mayday' distress signal and founded by HRH The Prince of Wales as a call to action to business, the Network aims to inspire, engage and support  by helping businesses committed to addressing climate change.

Its purpose is to create a network of businesses, which currently consists of over 1,300 businesses of varying sizes and sectors that will share best practice and work towards the common goal of reducing the UK's carbon emissions.

The Prince's Mayday network is supported by, amongst others, the Carbon Trust, The Carbon Neutral Company, Energy Saving Trust and HRH The Prince of Wales.

How is United Utilities involved?

United Utilities are a proud sponsor of the Prince's Mayday Summit. Through our sponsorship we aim to encourage other businesses, particularly in the North West, to address climate change and enable them to prosper in a low carbon economy. Members of our Executive Leadership team and our Sustainability team attended the 2009 summits in London and the North West.

Why is United Utilities addressing Climate Change?

Our sponsorship of the Mayday Network and Summit illustrates our commitment to addressing climate change, an issue which has significant implications for the water sector. Our long term focus on climate change and sustainability allows us to understand and assess the risks to our business and so plan for the future. We are making fundamentally different investment decisions which take into account our carbon emissions and deliver good value for customers.

These are challenging times financially for all businesses, large and small. We believe a commitment to tackle climate change, and membership of the Mayday network, opens up new opportunities and will help us achieve the best outcome for our business, shareholders, employees, customers, and the local and global environment. We encourage you to do the same and take part.
