Hope through Action is a charity specifically created to bring about an imaginative and life changing initiative for the young people of Mbekweni in South Africa.
The proposal uses sport as a medium not only to develop physical ability but also to community positive life skills to assist in coping with difficult realities.
The local council in Mbekweni has now granted a new 50-year lease for the Sports Stadium. Building will now commence in August 2009 and be complete by May 2010.
The Hope through Action Foundation (South Africa) has now been legally formed and launched.
With your fundraising as part of the Changing Lives Challenge, the charity has raised more than £270k for the sports stadium, with a promise of further significant funding from the South African Government.
In addition, Lord Mawhinney of the Football league board has recently granted a charitable donation of £60,000 per annum (for two years) to the charity, in recognition of the development of sporting opportunities in the Township.
The initiative has also been endorsed and supported by Lord Triesman, Chairman of the FA and Mr F W de Klerk, former President of South Africa.
