High Peak

During the five year period 2005 to 2010 we are investing around £5 million to improve services to customers in High Peak

Water quality

The quality of drinking water in the North West is the best it has ever been. But to ensure we continue to meet ever-increasing water quality standards, we are investing £3 million at Padfield Water Treatment Works and almost £300,000 maintaining the High Peak water supply system. Some of our water pipes date back to Victorian
times and this work is all part of our modernisation programme. The refurbishment and cleaning of the pipes will help reduce the risk of low water pressure and discoloured water to your homes and business premises.

Wastewater services

We take away wastewater through our sewer network, clean it and safety return it to the environment. Between 2005 and 2010 we are spending more than £300,000 cleaning and replacing parts of the High Peak sewer network. In addition, we are investing £1 million to prevent sewer overflows into local rivers and streams and more than £800,000 to prevent sewer flooding to customer properties.

Electricity network

We own and manage the electricity network in your area. In 2006 our electricity engineers carried out the biggest ever survey of the North West's power network. They walked from pole-to-pole checking their physical condition and inspecting the power lines in between. We are using the information to help plan and prioritise our £600 million electricity investment programme that runs until 2010.

When we carry out our improvement works in High Peak we aim to keep disruption to a minimum. If the work is going to affect you we will contact you before the work starts and will keep you updated while the work is carried out.

United Utilities in Derbyshire

• Our water engineers have begun the biggest clean-up the region has ever seen. We are investing more than £350 million to improve 800km of the North West's largest water pipes over the next eight years.
• Derbyshire householders are tapping in to their best ever water supplies according to the Drinking Water Inspectorate which shows that the overall quality of drinking water in the North West has improved for the 12th year in succession.
• In 2005 craftsmen restored a crumbling dry stone wall on our land in the Goyt Valley to its former glory. The wall now stretches from Buxton to Whaley Bridge and will enable us to improve this moorland, to attract more species of wildlife and to act as a natural barrier to grazing animals.
• As part of our role in managing the North West's reservoirs, we own and maintain 60,000 hectares of land, working with our tenants, the local community and national organisations. Much of the land we manage is made available to the public to enjoy. Here are some of the stunning locations in Derbyshire.
• Goyt Valley - the Goyt Valley is in the Peak District National Park. To the south lies Goyt's Moss and to the north the village of Fernilee. The western side of the valley is flanked by Shining Tor and Cats Tor.
• Longdendale Valley and Trail - the Longdendale Trail takes you along the route of the old Great Central Manchester Sheffield Railway. It is a very picturesque valley with its five reservoirs surrounded by high moorland.
