Cowm reservoir is situated to the west of Whitworth, with access from the A671 Rochdale to Bacup road.
Despite the remote location within the Rossendale Valley the area around Cowm was once a thriving community, living and working in the shadow of some spectacular quarrying landscapes.
Today visitors can enjoy a bracing walk around the reservoir on good surfaced paths, enjoy the sculpture trail, or take an extended route to visit Healey Dell nature reserve.

The recreation site facilities available at Cowm reservoir include:

- toilets, plus disabled toilets with RADAR key (not always open)
- refreshments available from vending machine
- dogs allowed
- car parking
- sculpture trail
- wheelchair friendly - some paths are suitable for assisted wheelchair users.
Opening times
Whitworth waterski centre is open April - October, daily 9.30am - dusk. Closed November - March. Call for further information.
