If you have received a water bill that is higher than you expected, it could be due to one of the following:
Have you recently moved to a house with a water meter? * Yes No
If you have recently moved from a property that didn't have a water meter, you would have been paying an unmeasured charge. This meant that no matter how much water you used, the charge remained the same. On a water meter, you pay for what you use.
Was your last bill based on an estimated reading? * Yes No
If we have estimated your meter reading, we may have over-estimated how much you have used. If you are able, check the actual water meter reading on your water meter (read the black and white digits only) and compare this to the estimated reading. If you would like a revised bill, please contact us on 0800 61 64 48 with your meter reading and the date you read the meter or you can submit your reading online [link to submit an online reading]. Remember, we only need the black and white digits.
Have we mis-read your meter? * Yes No
Very rarely, we may make a mistake reading your meter. If you are able to, check the actual meter reading on your water meter (read the black and white digits only) and compare this to the reading shown on your last bill.
Were any of your recent previous bills estimated? * Yes No
If you have been receiving estimated bills, we may have been underestimating your usage. If we have taken an actual meter reading this time, this will have caught up any previous low estimates we have made.
Has the number of occupiers living in your property increased? * Yes No
Water use is directly linked to the number of people living in the property. Newborn babies can also significantly increase water usage in the home. Also if you have had friends or relatives staying with you for any length of time since your last water bill, this may have caused a higher bill this time.
Have you had any home improvements recently? * Yes No
If you have recently had a new fitted kitchen or bathroom, any new appliances you may have had installed may cause higher bills. Power showers use a lot of water, as do dishwashers and washing machines.
Have your Direct Debit Payments increased? * Yes No
Your water bill may have gone up as a result of any increase in our charges, or your payments may have increased due to any outstanding charges you may have owed. This does not mean you are using more water than you were before.
