Water discolouration in Bromborough

Water discolouration in Bromborough

30 May 2010

We have had a number of calls from customers in the Bromborough area of Cheshire, this morning (Sunday, May 30) reporting discoloured water.

We believe that this was caused by a momentary power surge at our Sutton Hall Water Treatment Works in Ellesmere Port, which affected the pumps, and caused water to be expelled through the pipes at a faster rate than normal.

This disturbed harmless, naturally occurring sediment in the pipes, which has led to some customers experiencing discolouration.

We would advise any customers who notice discoloured water to let the tap run gently for a few moments, until the water clears. The water remains safe to drink, and there is no need to boil it.

Everything is back to normal at the treatment works. Enquiries to our call centre have been decreasing gradually throughout the morning, as the discolouration works its way out of the system.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.
