Wirral water supplies update: Wednesday, May 26 (7.30pm)
26 May 2010
Engineers from United Utilities have temporarily postponed tonight's planned valve repairs in order to reduce the impact of the work on local people.
Repairs on the 36" valve were originally planned to take place this evening (Wednesday, May 26).
However by carrying out further work on the local water supply network first engineers say they will be able to do the repairs with considerably less disruption.
The work will be re-scheduled to take place in the next few days.
Engineers will continue to work through the night on the project.
Meanwhile water supplies across the Wirral remain steady with giant super tankers continuing to pump clean, chlorinated water into the mains.
Other tankers are still busy maintaining water levels at Gorsehill Service Reservoir.
Scott Beard, Regional Water Network Manager, said: "A lot of very detailed preparations have been made for this operation over the last few days.
"Obviously, we are keen to get this work done as soon as we can but if there is a way to carry it out with less impact for customers who have already suffered a great deal of inconvenience, it has to be the right decision.
"We will be working continuously to prepare the site and monitor water supplies.
"Once again, we'd like to thank people for their patience and co-operation."
United Utilities has confirmed that compensation will be paid to those affected by the incident and to customers in Moreton, Leasowe, and Wallasey areas of Wirral who were affected by a water loss incident last week.
