Our engineers are continuing to repair a leak on a 21" trunk main in Reeds Lane, Moreton.
Water supplies to approximately 11,500 properties in the Moreton, Leasowe and Wallasey areas of Wirral were notified in advance that their water would be turned off at 8pm last night so repairs could be carried out.
However due to difficulties in isolating the main approximately 3,000 further properties in the Hoylake, Moreton, Upton and Arrowebrook areas may experience poor supply or no water.
Engineers were expecting to have repairs completed and supplies restored by 6am, but due to difficulties faced this unfortunately will no longer be possible.
United Utilities' network team leader David Bates said: "We are sorry that the repairs will not be completed by the expected time, but unfortunately this repair has been a highly complex job.
"Our priority now is to ensure that the properties affected last night have water as quickly as possible.
"We are hoping to have repairs to the pipe completed and all water restored by 12noon today.
"Vulnerable customers within our extra care register are being identified and we will prioritise providing alternative supplies for them.
"Unfortunately Reeds Lane will remain closed until all the work is completed.
"We are very sorry for any inconvenience, but we would like to ensure customers that we are doing everything we can to resolve this situation as quickly as possible."
