Road closure needed for Newton water works

Road closure needed for Newton water works

20 May 2010

A road closure at the junction of Park Road South and Acorn Street, Newton-le-Willows is needed so we can carry out water network improvements.

The closure - which will be implemented from Wednesday, May 26 - is expected to be in place for two weeks whilst work to renew an old cast-iron water pipe with a modern plastic one is completed.

A diversion route will be clearly signposted to direct traffic around the working area and temporary two-way traffic lights will also be required on-site.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, but on road parking will be restricted where work is evident.

Brian McBurney, United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator, said: "We will do our best to complete this work with minimal disruption.

"We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

"Our work is designed to improve the overall reliability of Newton-le-Willows' water network, improve pressure and reduce leakage."
