A site compound situated on the former Hewden Hire depot in Great Sankey will act as the focal point of a major scheme to combat sewer flooding affecting the area.
The scheme, which is being led by us, involves the installation of new underground storm water storage pipes in land off Friends Lane - as well as the construction of new sewers along Pyecroft Road, part of Pyecroft Close, under the A57 and through the Hewden Hire depot site.
Steve Knowles, Senior Project Manager, said: "The storage pipes are designed to temporarily retain storm water from the Pyecroft Road area during periods of heavy rainfall.
"It will be a gravity-operated system and will not require any pumps or above-ground structures.
"We have successfully solved sewer flooding issues in other parts of the North West and we know we have the knowledge and capability to deliver the same results here."
The work, which is now under way, is expected to take approximately 12 months to complete.
Whilst the construction works will cause some temporary disruption, United Utilities' customers are being asked to please bear with the team working on the project until it is completed.
"We will do everything possible to keep disruption levels to a minimum," said Steve.
A dedicated website page has been set up for all the sewer improvement work being carried out both in Great Sankey and Penketh at unitedutilities.com/sewerimprovements
This site, which includes a short film about sewer flooding and what is being done to help customers, will be updated with all the latest information.
Customers living in the area will be kept up to date by letter as work progresses.
A dedicated phone number has also been set up - 01925 670 383, which is available Monday to Friday from 8am-8pm to find out more information about the work.
