More water works in the pipeline for Southport

06 April 2010

Ongoing works to replace Southport's old water mains with new ones continue to flow on.

Engineers working on our behalf will start to replace the old mains from Monday, April 12 outside the Coliseum and along the Promenade and Neville Street.

During this time work will also begin along Cable Street and at the junctions of Stanley Street and West Street.

John Maher, Project Engineer, said: "This work is designed to improve the overall reliability of the network, reduce the risk of leakage and ensure Southport's water supply continues to flow to residents' taps for many more years to come.

"We expect the works to take approximately two weeks to complete.

"Over this time period we will progress through the streets and once work is finished we will re-lay roads and footpaths as quickly as possible."

Due to the location of the existing water main on Neville Street a partial lane closure will be put in place where traffic enters the street from Lord Street.

Diversion signs will be clearly signposted to divert traffic around the working area.

Residents are advised that on-road parking will be restricted where works are evident.

Pedestrian access however will be maintained at all times during the work.

"Our team on-site will be available to discuss any individual access needs residents have who are directly affected by the works and we will do our very best to help where we can," added John.

"We appreciate that our works will cause some temporary disruption and for that we apologise, but we would ask that people please bear with us until these essential improvements are completed."
