United Utilities is advising residents and motorists that Norton Lane, Runcorn will soon be closed for approximately eight weeks.
The Cheshire-based water company is carrying out essential sewer improvement work as part of its £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.
Jason Boyd, United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator, said: "We are splitting this essential work - which will see a new sewerage system introduced to the area - into two phases.
"The first phase - which is set to start on Monday, April 12 - will result in a full road closure being put in place along Norton Lane from Norton View to the car park at the end of Norton Lane.
"This phase is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.
"For phase two our engineers will continue to work along the closed road from the other side of Norton View up to 15 Norton Lane.
"This phase is expected to take a further five weeks to complete."
During the road closure a fully signed diversion route will be implemented on-site.
Pedestrian access will be provided wherever physically possible.
"We understand that the road closure may cause some temporary disruption and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused," said Jason.
"The road closure is essential in allowing us to work as safely and efficiently as possible.
"The plan is that properties in the area who have already been contacted in regards to connecting onto the new sewer system will have the opportunity to do so at the end of May this year.
"We will continue to keep residents updated as work progresses."
