Water works on Mill Lane, Southport

Water works on Mill Lane, Southport

29 March 2010

We will soon be giving an old water pipe in Mill Lane, Southport a modern makeover.

Engineers working on our behalf will be renewing the pipe with a modern plastic one to reinforce the reliability of the local water network and reduce the risk of leakage.

Work will start on Tuesday, April 6 and is expected to take one week to complete.

John Maher, Project Engineer, said: "This work is part of our ongoing commitment to replace the region's old cast-iron water pipes with new plastic ones.

"The pipe on Mill Lane has done a great job for many years, but in order to ensure that this part of the network continues to serve high-quality water to the area for many more years to come we need to replace it.

"We have worked in co-operation with the local council to revise our programme of work in order to minimise any impact it would have on businesses during the busy summer season."

Engineers will be working outside house numbers 32-60 on Mill Lane.

Due to the narrow width of the road and the location of existing water pipes residents are respectfully requested to please make alternative parking arrangements during 8am-5pm each day until the week-long work is completed.

John added: "We will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

"Unfortunately the short-term inconvenience is required in order for the long-term benefits to be delivered."
