The first of a four-phase programme of work to improve water supplies in Knutsford will soon be under way.
Cheshire-based water company United Utilities will begin to renew old water mains along Manchester Road from Monday, March 29.
This phase of work, which is expected to take three weeks to complete, will see a traffic management plan implemented where traffic will become one way heading into Knutsford.
Traffic heading out will need to follow a signed diversion route.
Phase two will see work flow on to Green Street and into the junction of Canute Place.
At this stage a temporary road closure will be put in place for one week so engineers can work safely.
Phase three will move along Green Street, Windsor Way and Victoria Street and is expected to take four weeks to complete.
Traffic management may be evident on these streets - as well as parking restrictions.
The fourth and final phase will then take place on Westfield Drive and School Close and is expected to be finished within two weeks.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times throughout the four phases.
John Maher, United Utilities' Project Engineer, said: "We are replacing old cast-iron water mains with modern plastic ones.
"This work is essential in ensuring that Knutsford's water network continues to deliver high-quality water supplies to its residents for many more years to come.
"The new pipes will strengthen the overall reliability of the network and reduce the risk of leakage.
"We will do our utmost to complete the four phases of work with as minimal disruption as possible.
"Our traffic management plans have been in agreed with the local council to ensure our work can be carried out safely and efficiently.
"We apologise for any inconvenience our work may cause, but the short-term disruption is needed to reap the long-term benefits."
