A newer sewer network for Mill Brow

A newer sewer network for Mill Brow

22 March 2010

We are carrying out essential work in the Mill Brow area of St Helens to prevent sewer flooding.

The work - which is due to start on Monday, March 29 - will see engineers constructing a new underground storage tank on Ackers Lane.

The tank will be used to capture excess storm water during periods of heavy rainfall so that it doesn't enter the sewer network and overwhelm it, which can cause sewer flooding to homes.

Work is expected to take approximately 12-14 weeks to complete and will result in a small section of Ackers Lane being closed at the junction of Mill Brow and Knowsley Road.

Access for all properties along Ackers Lane will be maintained via a small diversion route, which will be clearly signposted.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Jason Boyd, Project Co-ordinator, said: "This work is essential in ensuring that homes in the Mill Brow area are protected from the very distressing and unpleasant experiences caused by sewer flooding.

"Our scheme will also improve the overall reliability of the local sewer network.

"We will do everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum and we have liaised with the local council to implement a traffic management system which we hope will not cause too much inconvenience.

"Once our works are completed we will make sure that all roads are returned to their previous condition."
