Next stop Rylands Street for Warrington water works

18 March 2010

Our ongoing scheme to improve Warrington town centre's water supply will soon see engineers working in Rylands Street.

We will be replacing old cast-iron water mains with modern plastic ones as part of its £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.

The new pipes will reinforce the overall reliability of the network and reduce the risk of leakage.

From Monday, March 22 engineers will start work to replace old pipes on Rylands Street and will continue on to Cairo Street, St Austin's Lane and Barbauld Street.

The work, which will take six weeks to complete, will result in a traffic management plan being implemented in agreement with Warrington Borough Council.

The plan will be evident on these streets whilst work is ongoing, but access will be maintained at all times to both vehicles and pedestrians.

Keith Saltmarsh, Project Engineer, said: "For many years the town's pipes have done a great job serving water to the taps of local homes and businesses, but as the town has expanded and developed in recent years so must its water network.

"The new pipes will ensure that high-quality water supplies will continue to be on tap throughout the rest of the 21st century and beyond.

"We will do our best to complete this work with minimal disruption and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause."
