Improvements in the pipeline for Great Sankey pumping station
09 March 2010
Preparations will soon be under way to make improvements to Whittle Brook Pumping Station as part of an ongoing scheme to alleviate sewer flooding in Great Sankey.
Warrington-based water company United Utilities will be setting up a site compound in the next couple of weeks, which will be located adjacent to the pumping station.
As a result local residents may notice an increase in construction-related traffic entering and exiting the site off the A562, Warrington Road.
The compound is required to enable the construction of a new underground storm water pumping station adjacent to the existing building.
Steve Knowles, United Utilities' Senior Project Manager, said: "The storm water pumping station is designed to capture excess storm water during periods of heavy rainfall.
"This prevents the local sewer network becoming overwhelmed - causing sewer flooding to nearby homes.
"The work is scheduled to be completed by January next year and we will continue to keep local residents updated as our work progresses."
