High-quality water for Lowton

High-quality water for Lowton

05 March 2010

Work to replace old water pipes in Lowton will soon get under way.

The work, which is part of our £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010, will see engineers replacing the old pipes with modern plastic ones to improve water quality, reinforce the overall reliability of the network and reduce the risk of leakage.

Brian McBurney, Project Engineer, said: "Our work is due to begin on Monday, March 15.

"We will be replacing pipes from outside Lowton West Primary School, along Slag Lane and finishing up opposite the junction of Braithwaite Road.

"There will also be a second section of work carried out along Slag Lane.

"This will start from the junction of Woodvale Drive and finish near Hogue Bush Farm."

In addition Brian and the team will be replacing water pipes along Laurel Grove.

Due to the location of the existing water mains on Laurel Grove on-street parking will be temporarily restricted but access for residents' vehicles will be maintained.

Brian added: "In order to complete all of this work practically and safely we need to put temporary two-way traffic lights in place along Slag Lane, which has been arranged in liaison with the local council."

"The lights will help to maintain the flow of traffic through the working area.

"Once our work is completed, which is expected to take three weeks, we will return all affected areas to their previous condition and all parking will be restored.

"We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause."
