Water works move onto Liver Street

16 February 2010

An ongoing scheme to improve Liverpool city centre's water supply will see old cast-iron water mains on Liver Street being replaced.

Engineers working on behalf us on the £35 million scheme will be replacing the old mains with modern plastic pipes at the junction of Liver Street and Park Lane from Monday, February 22.

The work, which is expected to take between two and three weeks to complete, is designed to reduce leakage and reinforce the overall reliability of the city centre's network.

John Maher, Project Engineer, said: "This particular section of the scheme is required in advance of Liverpool City Council's planned works for the area.

"Due to the position of the water mains we have to close part of the junction, which will affect the access and exit at the John Lewis Q Park.

"Motorists should also be advised that access into Liver Street from Park Lane will only be available via the left-hand turn.

"A signed diversion will be in place for the duration of the works and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

"We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause."

This scheme is part of our £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.
