A £35 million scheme to improve water supplies in Liverpool City Centre continues to flow on thanks to United Utilities.
The scheme, which is part of the water company's £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005 to 2010, has seen engineers replacing old cast-iron water mains across the city centre with modern plastic ones to safeguard the network, reduce the risk of leakage and ensure local businesses continue to have a high-quality service for many more years to come.
The latest section of work is due to start on Monday, February 15 where engineers will be replacing pipes at Sweeting Street, Princess Street, Temple Street, Stanley Street, Davies Street, Cumberland Street, Sir Thomas Street, Crosshall Street and Old Haymarket.
The work, which is due to be completed during early April this year, is required in advance of Liverpool City Council's planned works for Dale Street.
Due to the position of the existing water mains some of the roads will have to be closed to through traffic.
However vehicle access for deliveries, parking and other services will be maintained.
Pedestrian access will also be maintained at all times.
Sweeting Street will be closed for one week from February 15 and other closures will be communicated to customers in advance as work progresses.
John Maher, United Utilities' Project Engineer, said: "We'd like to apologise for any short-term inconvenience this essential work may cause."
