Weather delays Sandbach sewer works

01 February 2010

Severe weather conditions in early January have led to sewer improvement works in Sandbach being delayed.

Engineers working on behalf of Cheshire-based water company United Utilities will now need to keep Cooksmere Lane closed from the location of the existing pumping station up to the junction of Queens Drive until Friday, February 5.

This road will reopen on February 5 and work will progress onto Queens Drive.

This will result in a road closure being implemented that day from the junction of Cooksmere Lane to outside property number 83 Queens Drive.

The closure is expected to remain in place until February 12.

Jason Boyd, United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator, said: "Unfortunately the heavy snow we experienced at the start of this year has led to our sewer improvement project being slightly delayed.

"We have been making efforts to ensure that disruption has been kept to a minimum whilst this essential work is ongoing, but we do apologise that Cooksmere Lane has been closed longer than expected.

"We would also like to thank local residents for their continued co-operation."

Residents are advised that waste and recycling bins should be presented on the same day as usual.

The team on-site will ensure that the bins are collected.

This work is part of United Utilities' £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.
