Wirral sewer works under way

Wirral sewer works under way

26 January 2010

Work to improve the reliability of Wirral's sewer network is under way thanks to United Utilities.

The work, which is part of the water company's £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010, will also help towards preventing sewer flooding.

Engineers are making essential improvements in the Burton Avenue and Mossland Drive areas.

The work, which is expected to take approximately four months to complete, involves constructing a new below-ground storage tank in the highway on Mossland Drive and relaying the sewer pipes situated along Burton Avenue.

Jose de Freitas, United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator, said: "During our work on Mossland Drive we will be using temporary traffic lights to manage the traffic flow past our working area.

We will also need to put parking restrictions in place along the road.

We will also be restricting parking in Burton Avenue where necessary, which will be when we are working in close proximity to our customers' properties.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause and we thank local residents for their patience and understanding during these essential improvements.

We are working closely with the local council to minimise disruption, which includes making efforts to ensure the usual bin and recycling collection services continue as normal."
