Wilmslow water works progressing well
22 January 2010
A £6.7 million scheme to improve water supplies in the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge areas is progressing well.
Engineers working on behalf of Cheshire-based water company United Utilities started the project last year.
The first phase of the project, which will ultimately see a 4.8km water main laid between Wilmslow and Alderley Edge, was centred round work in Wilmslow town centre and completed last year.
The second phase is already under way and will be largely based in rural land.
However engineers are currently working on the second of a three-section piece of the pipeline which needs to be laid in the highway.
As a result Hough Lane was closed earlier this week between Hayes Lane and Moss Road.
The closure, which is expected to be in place for up to three weeks, has diversion routes clearly signposted.
Efforts are being made to keep disruption to a minimum and United Utilities apologises for any short-term inconvenience caused.
The website unitedutilities.com/wilmslow will be updated with information and maps of the diversion routes for Hough Lane and other road closures relating to the project.
If customers require any further information about the scheme they can visit the website or contact the Service Inquiries line on 0845 746 22 00 quoting reference number 80016234.
