Work to improve Alsager's sewer network and prevent flooding to homes in the area will get under way in the New Year thanks to United Utilities.
Work will begin working week commencing January 4 on Linley Road.
Jason Boyd, United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator, said: "Our work is designed to deliver a solution to the very unpleasant problem of sewer flooding, which is caused during prolonged heavy rainfall when the sewer network becomes overwhelmed.
"Our work to improve the existing sewers will ensure that they are able to withstand demands placed upon them during heavy rainfall and thus prevent nearby homes from being flooded.
"This work is part of the company's £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010."
In order for the work to be carried out safely by engineers, the following roads will have temporary traffic management plans put in place - as agreed with the local council:
Linley Road closed from January 11 to February 27
Linley Grove closed from January 11 to April 24
Barrat Road closed from April 26 to May 22
The roads will not be closed entirely but signs, barriers and diversion routes will be put in place.
There will be no through route possible during any of the affected road closures but pedestrian access past the working area will be maintained at all times.
Access for residents' vehicles however will be permitted wherever possible.
"We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause," said Jason.
"Our site staff will do everything they can to accommodate any specific requirements local residents may have."
