Sandbach sewer improvement scheme set for New Year restart

18 December 2009

A £1m project to improve the reliability of Sandbach's sewer network is due to restart in the New Year.

Engineers working on behalf of Cheshire-based water company United Utilities will be working in the highway on Cooksmere Lane from Monday, January 4.

This section of work, which is expected to take up to three weeks to complete, will see Cooksmere Lane closed from where United Utilities' existing pumping station is up to the junction of Queens Drive.

Cooksmere Lane will reopen on Monday, January 25 and work will progress onto Queens Drive.

Queens Drive will need to be closed from the junction with Cooksmere Lane.

This closure will be in place until Monday, February 1.

During both road closures a fully signposted diversion route will be in place and access will be maintained for residents' vehicles where possible. Unrestricted pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Where vehicular access is temporarily restricted affected customers will be notified in advance and provided with an estimated duration of work time - as well as any further support.

Jason Boyd, United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator, said: "Our work will not only improve the reliability of the sewer network but also help towards preventing flooding to properties in the area.

"We will do our utmost to complete this work with minimal disruption to residents and we would like to thank residents in advance for their patience and understanding."

Residents are advised to leave their waste and recycling bins out for collection on the usual day.

The team working on-site will ensure they are collected as usual.

This work is part of United Utilities' £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.
