Old water pipes in Bootle are being given a new lease of life thanks to United Utilities.
The water company will be installing a new section of pipe from Breeze Hill and Liston Street to the length of Queens Drive to the roundabout at the junction of Breeze Hill and Hawthorn Road.
The work, which will start on Monday, November 30 and is expected to take between six and eight weeks to complete, is designed to improve the overall reliability of Bootle's water network, improve water pressure and reduce the risk of leakage.
Henry Bennett, United Utilities' Project Engineer, said: "Bootle's pipes have done a fantastic job for more than 100 years, but the time has come to carry out this work in order to safeguard water supplies for many more years to come.
"Our new plastic pipe will improve supplies and the quality of water coming through our customers' taps in Bootle."
During the work traffic will be reduced to one lane over the Queens Drive / Breeze Hill flyover heading into Bootle.
Two running lanes will be in use after the flyover.
As work progresses past Stuart Road the flyover traffic management, which has been co-ordinated in agreement with the police and local highways authority, will be removed - opening it back up to two lanes.
It is expected to take approximately two weeks of the working schedule to progress past Stuart Road.
"We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause," said Henry.
"We are doing everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum but we would advise motorists using the flyover to get to work to please plan some extra time into their journeys."
These improvements are part of United Utilities' £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.
