Water work means road closure for Pardshaw

Water work means road closure for Pardshaw

10 November 2009

Villagers near Cockermouth are due for a much-improved water supply as part of a £75,000 scheme by United Utilities.

Engineers are set to replace an old water main in Pardshaw, which should put an end to occasional poor water pressure some householders have experienced.

The scheme will mean that the main road through the village will be closed to through traffic for up to five weeks from November 16.

This is so engineers can work in the narrow lane safely. They need to replace more than 1.2km of corroded cast iron main with a new pipe made of plastic, which is much more durable and reliable.

Project manager Paul Wheadon said the quality and reliability of drinking water supplies was the company's top priority.

"This scheme will be very important for the people of Pardshaw and we will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum. A customer liaison officer will be visiting people affected to reassure them that access to their homes will be maintained at all times and that we will try to finish the job as quickly as possible," he said.

The road through Pardshaw will be closed to through traffic between Yew Tree House and Fieldside Cottage, although pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be able to pass and residents will be able to get access. Diversion routes will be in place along the A5086.
