Burst water pipe finally fixed in Burnley
24 September 2009
After months of delays a water pipe that burst several times last year causing disruption to residents water supply on Brownside Road, Burnley is finally being sorted by water giant United Utilities.
The North West firm is splashing part of its £2.9 billion investment fund to replace the last 162 meters of damaged pipe, giving householders the security and reliability of fresh water, using new high-tech plastic blue pipes.
Last year water engineers fixed pipes leading up to the bridge over Brownside Road, but work stopped when Gas contractors needed to fix gas supply pipes nearby. Council officials finally gave the green light for water engineers to finish their work, starting on Thursday 1st October with traffic lights going up at the junction of Daisy Bank Crescent and Brownside Road for 2-weeks.
The Utility firm is stressing there will be no need for anyone to enter properties during the works and residents should check the identity of anyone cold calling at their home saying they are from the water board. / ends
