Water improvements for Kirkdale
24 September 2009
Water supply improvements for Kirkdale are in the pipeline thanks to United Utilities.
The water company will begin replacing old cast-iron water mains along Athol Street with modern plastic ones from Monday, September 28.
The work is expected to take four weeks to complete.
Henry Bennett, United Utilities' Project Engineer, said: "These improvements are designed to strengthen the overall reliability of the local water network and reduce the risk of leakage."
Whilst work is ongoing engineers will need to dig up the road.
Local residents are therefore advised to please make alternative parking arrangements where excavation works are evident.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Henry added: "Once the work is completed all affected areas of the road will be restored to its previous condition.
"We apologise for any short-term inconvenience this work may cause, which will deliver long-term benefits."
This work is part of United Utilities' £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.
