Work to cut Crewe's leaks enters next phase

09 September 2009

A United Utilities project to reduce water leakage in Crewe continues to progress.

The Cheshire-based company is working to replace an old trunk main between Acton Road and Lockitt Street as part of its £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.

Having completed work in the Queens Park area, engineers are now working towards Lockitt Street in three phases:

Edleston Road (between Electricity Street and Brook Street) from September 8 for two working days
Brook Street from September 10 for seven working days
Lockitt Street from September 17 for six working days

Ian Grzelak, United Utilities' Project Manager, said: "We will do everything we can to maintain access for pedestrians and vehicles where possible, but we would like to advise customers in the local area in advance that some restrictions may be experienced.

"We do apologise for any temporary inconvenience this may cause."

Local residents are advised to please be aware of bogus callers claiming to be working on the scheme as our engineers will not need to visit properties.
