Wirral water works ongoing
13 August 2009
An ongoing scheme to replace old cast-iron water pipes on Chadwick Street and Hoylake Road in Moreton, Wirral is progressing well thanks to United Utilities.
The work, which is part of the water company's £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010, will see engineers working on Chadwick Street from Monday, August 17 for up to two weeks.
In order for this work to be carried out as quickly and safely as possible Chadwick Street will be closed to all through traffic from August 17 for the two-week duration.
During this time access to Chadwick Street for businesses in this area will be maintained as much as possible, but it is expected that some disruption will be experienced.
Parking restrictions will be put in place where work is evident, but pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Brian Jenkins, United Utilities' Project Engineer, said: "Our work is designed to improve water quality in the local area and reduce the risk of leakage on our network.
"Our new plastic pipes are strong and durable and designed to help serve the area's taps for many years to come.
"We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause and thank residents and businesses in advance for their patience and understanding.
"We appreciate that parking along the road will be restricted whilst our work is ongoing, but this is a necessary short-term inconvenience in order to deliver long-term benefits."
