Knutsford sewer improvements in full flow

11 August 2009

Work to improve the reliability of Knutsford's sewer network is in full flow thanks to United Utilities.

The Cheshire-based firm is replacing old sewer pipes and installing some new ones as part of its £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.

Work to replace the existing pipes is scheduled to begin this week at an existing pumping station off Leycester Drive.

The majority of this work will be carried out in the garden of Winander on Leycester Drive and the field to the rear.

New pipes will then be installed in the fields towards Mobberley Station and on into Hobcroft Lane from week commencing August 24.

During this phase engineers will need to work in the highway for approximately 10 days and some parking spaces at the train station are expected to be restricted for approximately five of these days.

The whole project is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator Jason Boyd said: "We are delighted to be in a position to deliver these improvements, which will reinforce Knutsford's sewer network.

"Our main working area during the project will be set up in the field on Hobcroft Lane - although there will be a requirement to obtain access from Leycester Drive also.

"Although there will be some additional traffic and noise disturbance we would like to reassure local residents that we will be doing our best to keep these disruptions to a minimum.

"We will only be working from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday so there's no disturbance at weekends.

"This is one of the many improvement projects our customers' bills help to fund - and it will be well worth it when it's finished."
