Work flows on to cut Crewe's water leakage
04 August 2009
A United Utilities project to reduce water leakage in Crewe continues to progress.
The Cheshire-based company is working to replace an old trunk main between Acton Road and Lockitt Street as part of its £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.
Having completed work in Queens Park Drive ahead of schedule, engineers will be returning to Alton Street on Monday, August 10.
The work, which is expected to take up to two weeks to complete, is likely to result in restricted access for pedestrians and residents' vehicles.
Ian Grzelak, United Utilities' Project Manager, said: "We will do everything we can to maintain access for pedestrians and vehicles where possible, but we would like to advise customers in the local area in advance that some restrictions may be experienced.
"We do apologise for any temporary inconvenience this may cause."
The next phase of work will see engineers moving towards the town centre and on to Electricity Street.
Local residents are advised to please be aware of bogus callers claiming to be working on the scheme as our engineers will not need to visit properties.
