United Utilities' £35 million scheme to replace old water mains in Liverpool city centre with new ones continues to progress.

Engineers will begin working in Greek Street and Hart Street on Monday, August 10.

John Maher, United Utilities' Project Engineer, said: "We're expecting this essential work - which is designed to improve the reliability of the water network and reduce leakage - will take up to two weeks to complete.

"Due to the location of the existing water pipes we may need to temporarily suspend parking bays along Greek Street and Hart Street.

"This is to maintain the flow of traffic through the working area.

"Once our work is completed we will return all affected areas to their previous condition and all on-road parking will be restored.

"Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

"We apologise for any short-term inconvenience caused whilst this essential work is carried out."

This project is part of United Utilities' £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.
