City centre waterworks flow on
28 July 2009
United Utilities will soon be replacing old water pipes in Liverpool with modern plastic ones.
The work, which is part of an ongoing project to improve the water network serving businesses in Liverpool city centre, will begin in Sparling Street on Monday, August 3.
Engineers expect the work to take up to two weeks to complete.
John Maher, United Utilities' Project Engineer, said: "Our work is part of a £35 million improvement programme to reduce leakage and improve water quality in Liverpool city centre.
"Due to the location of the existing water pipes in Sparling Street we will be working in a number of locations along the street.
"This will restrict the use of the five parking bays located towards the lower section of Sparling Street.
"Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times however and we will do everything we can to keep disruption levels to a minimum."
