Water leakage improvement work progresses

Water leakage improvement work progresses

21 July 2009

A United Utilities project to reduce water leakage in Crewe is progressing well.

The Cheshire-based company is working to replace an old trunk main between Acton Road and Lockitt Street as part of its £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.

Having completed work in Alton Street which started earlier this month, engineers have now moved onto the King George V playing fields.

There will be restricted access around the site area, which will be enclosed for the duration of this work.

This phase is expected to take up to two weeks to complete.

Use of the park will not be affected.

Ian Grzelak, United Utilities' Project Manager, said: "The main is in poor condition and has burst several times in the past - causing disruption to customers in the town.

"We are pleased to be in the position to deliver this improvement scheme, which is designed to reduce the risk of further bursts and leakages on the pipe."

Local residents are also advised to please be aware of bogus callers claiming to be working on the scheme as our engineers will not need to visit properties.
